X-ray visibility is now possible for resorbable polymer stent.(Materials)

The first fully resorbable polymer drug delivery stent that can be seen by X-ray has been developed through collaboration between Reva Medical Inc and the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials in the USA, it is claimed.

The stent is made from a family of tyrosine-derived polycarbonates. These are versatile, degradable polymers with proven biocompatibility, developed by Dr Joachim Kohn, Director of the Biomaterials Center. X-ray visibility is achieved by the inclusion of iodine atoms in the polymer. This visibility is necessary for placement accuracy and continued monitoring of the device after implantation.

The polymer is combined with Reva Medical's …
