The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday struck nearly $3 billion in deals with U.S. giants Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. to supply military transport aircraft, the latest in a series of high-priced contracts this week underscoring the Gulf nation's efforts to bolster its defenses despite economic woes.
The agreements announced at the 9th International Defense Conference and Exhibition included the purchase of four C-17 aircraft from Chicago-based Boeing and 12 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft produced by Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin, the official WAM news agency reported.
